The University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University is one of Europe's largest public health clinics. It is named after a district in the south-west of Munich, where it is located. The Department of Neurology specializes in treatment and rehabilitation of various forms of neurological diseases. Annually more than 10,000 patients are examined here. In particular: craniocerebral trauma, spinal cord injuries, stroke and brain infarction, brain haemorrhage, subarachnoid brain hemorrhage, neuromuscular diseases, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, treatment and rehabilitation after surgery to remove brain tumors.
Annually, highly skilled specialists of the department of cardiology carry out up to 3,600 surgical interventions under the direction of the Director, Professor DM Bruno Reirhard, who is one of the leaders for heart failure treatment in Germany.

Complex examinations, conservative and surgical treatment of the whole spectrum of gynecological and breast diseases are carried out under the direction of Prof. D.M. Friese. Thanks to the efforts of the hospital staff, 1,400 healthy babies come into the world every year.
